How to make a chore chart
- Give the chart a title, such as “Sam’s chores” or “Flat 4 rota”.
- Type your chores or daily tasks, up to 12. Short names fit best.
- Choose whether the week starts on Monday or Sunday, then print it, or save it as a PDF.
Tips for a chart that gets used
- Keep it short. A handful of daily chores is easier to keep up than a long list.
- Put it where the day starts, such as the fridge or the back of the bedroom door.
- Make ticking it off part of the job. Keep a pen next to the chart.
- Start fresh each week. Print a few copies at once, or put one in a plastic sleeve and use a whiteboard pen.
Turning chores into Orbit Alarm tasks
Tick the QR label option and a second page prints with one label per chore. Stick each label where the chore happens: the bin, the pet food, the laundry basket. Then add each chore as a task in Orbit Alarm, with a reminder time and Require barcode scan switched on. When the task is due it stays on screen until the label is scanned (or you choose to dismiss it without completing), so the reminder takes you to the job. The barcode tasks guide shows how to set it up.
For alarms rather than chores, the wake-up label sheet prints QR codes for the bathroom, the kettle and anywhere else you need to get to.
Frequently asked questions
Is the chore chart free?
Yes. There’s no sign-up and no watermark, and you can print as many as you like, for your family, a shared house or a classroom.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Click Print, then choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. You can print the PDF later or send it to someone else.
What are the QR labels for?
They’re optional, for Orbit Alarm, our free Android alarm and task reminder app. Stick each label where the chore happens, such as the bin or the pet food, and add the chore as a task in Orbit Alarm that only clears when that label is scanned. Going to scan it puts you right where the job is.
Can I use the QR labels with other apps?
They’re ordinary QR codes holding a short random code, so any app that scans QR codes can read them. They don’t link anywhere.
How many chores can I add?
Up to 12, which still leaves room to tick on a single page. For more, make a second chart, for example one for mornings and one for evenings.
Is what I type sent anywhere?
No. The chart is made in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.
